All VectorWatch phone apps (Android, iOS, Windows) have an integrated store, where we list watch faces, apps and streams that users can download.
You can see that initially the only author is Vector Watch, but we expect you to start publishing faces, apps and streams in our store under your own name.
There are two APIs offered on the Vector Platform for App Building and interaction with the watch. This two different APIs also mark different models of integrating in the Vector ecosystem.
Mobile API (mobile integration) will enable developers of Mobile Applications to send and receive data from the Watch. Using this API, your native mobile app can communicate with your app or update streams on the watch.
Cloud API (cloud integration) will enable developers of cloud apps to send and receive information from the Watch through the Vector Cloud. Using this API, your cloud applications can communicate with your app or streams on the watch, with no need of a native app on the user’s phone.
Using the Mobile and Cloud APIs, third party developers will be able to create apps and streams that will run on the watch.
Vector Watch Apps
Apps on the watch can be installed by the user from the store inside the VectorWatch app on your mobile device. Once installed, users will be able to navigate to the app on the watch and, by pressing the middle button, your app will open. You will define the screens in your app and the user interaction, and will provide us access to your cloud or app APIs to display personalised information on the user’s wrist. When installing an app, the users will give us access, on their behalf, to your cloud or your app.
You will be able to create controlling apps (example: control the temperature in your house), productivity apps (like todo lists that you can check on or off), news apps (favourite team game results), activity apps and more.
Apps can be delivered as streams, traditional apps or both.
Vector Watch Streams
Vector is true to its values. A watch must be a beautiful timepiece that delivers the right information when you need it. The Streams concept are pieces of information pushed from local mobile applications or cloud applications on any watch face.
An example of such application are Weather, Stocks, News, Sport scores and so one.
Watch users are able to add any streams to their watch faces, and we expect 3rd party streams to be developed by you as well. Unlike apps, streams are always on a watch face, and can be accessed at a glance, with no need for user interaction (navigate to the app, etc). Streams are glanceable and not actionable, and are there just to inform the user.
We have developed streams like timezone, stock and weather, and expect you to start developing you own streams that our users will be able to download in the vector store.
Stream data can be pushed from your native app, as well as your cloud - depending on the API that you use. Streams can update periodically (every hour for example).
